The Blue Crab Digestive System
1. 1The front claws, also known as the chelicera, place the food in the crabs mouth
2. 1Food goes into mouth and down the "cuticle-lined" esophagus.
3. 1The esophagus turns backwards into the proventriculus which contains the "crop" and the "gizzard". 4. 1The crop expands in order to accommodate the food properly.
5. 1The food then goes down to the gizzard and the food is decreased into a pulp. The indigestible food is then regurgitated. 6. 1Further, the food is passed through the pyloric valve, into the midgut and there, the food is digested. 7. 1Lastly, the digested food goes down the rectum and out through the Anus.
Metabollic Wastes Control:
For arthropods such as insects, the wastes are diffused into the malipighan tubule and it is used to excrete the wastes.
